The way she looks
makes the mysteries
seem simple and
the way she looks
at me sideways,
sometimes,
makes me feel like
the king of this
precious, little
ant hill.
Were this centuries ago,
there’s little doubt that
I’d not be sitting here
with my i-tunes shuffle
and my tivo
and my keyboard.
I’d be wandering the streets,
lamenting to the
street lanterns about
Ares and Apollo
punching holes in
the brilliant greek sky
and thunderously
throwing elbows
at each other
in order to get
a better view of her.
Alas, I’m sitting here
with my i-tunes shuffle
and my tivo
and my keyboard
and the mysteries are simple
and the allusions come simpler
as she’s out there dancing
for the gods and goddesses.
