Too far smoked to stop
swam upward
in circles,
loudly
double helixing
with the smoke
from her cigarette
too far smoked
to stop.
she didn’t shower
and I said
I didn’t care.
And she probably
didn’t shower
and I really
didn’t care.
fingers
propped that
burning
little barrier
between us.
And those
fingers
gripped tight
that drink
courageous.
And those
fingers,
thinner than
a roll of dimes,
ground it all
to a halt
when they
flashed
that pretty
little diamond
at me.
